What are you building today that your future self will benefit from?

Yo yo yo! Reader,

This week felt less like running a business and more like rebuilding one while it was still operating.

Some weeks are about chasing sales.

Some are about solving problems.

This week was about preparing for what comes next.

With only days remaining in the financial year, almost every decision I'm making is no longer about today—it's about setting up FY27.

And while that's exciting...

It's also a little terrifying.

The Snapshot

This week was one of our busiest behind the scenes.

We:

  • Finished another huge week of eBay Live.
  • Continued transitioning from a sole trader into a company.
  • Prepared employment documentation for new team members.
  • Cleared warehouse space for additional pallet racking. (still in progress)
  • Processed another e-waste drop off.
  • Sold more camera equipment.
  • Cleared over 250 pairs of consignment shoes.
  • Planned our next phase of warehouse growth.

On paper, it sounds productive.

In reality...

It felt like juggling twenty different projects while trying not to drop any of them.

Behind The Scenes

One thing I've realised recently is that growth doesn't always look exciting.

Sometimes growth looks like paperwork.

Contracts.

Employment agreements.

Supplier accounts.

Accounting software.

Warehouse planning.

Infrastructure.

The glamorous parts of business might be the sales and the milestones.

But sustainable businesses are built on systems that most people never see.

This week wasn't about chasing the next big win.

It was about putting the foundations in place so the next few years become possible.

The Lesson

Growth Means Letting Go

One comment this week asked why one of my team members wasn't always at work.

It gave me the opportunity to explain something that's incredibly important to me.

Every member of my team is a real person.

They have families.

Appointments.

Kids.

Life outside of work.

I've always believed that if you want great people, you have to treat them like humans—not production machines.

Could I squeeze a few more hours out of everyone?

Probably.

Would that build the culture I want?

Absolutely not.

Ironically, giving people trust often creates more accountability—not less.

Whether you're leading a team, raising a family, or simply working alongside others, people perform their best when they're respected, not controlled.

That's the kind of business I want to build.

What I'm Thinking About

The last few months have been some of the biggest changes I've ever made.

eBay Live has become a genuine part of the business.

The camera division continues to grow.

Our e-waste operation is not expanding to the lengths I wish... but it still pays!

The company transition is almost complete.

We're preparing to bring on another team member.

Some days it feels like we're changing everything.

The challenge isn't deciding what to change.

It's making all of those changes while the business still has to operate every single day.

Customers still need their orders.

Shows still need to happen.

Stock still needs to be listed.

The machine can't stop while you're rebuilding it.

Numbers Corner

This week continued the momentum.

Weekly Highlights

  • Nearly $2,000 in our Friday eBay Live show.
  • Around $4,000 generated in a single day across Live, cameras and store sales.
  • Another strong week on track to become one of our best ever.
  • We actually did $24,856.17 last week!
  • June tracking towards approximately $75,000 revenue.
  • FY26 projected to finish around $530k+ revenue.

What excites me most isn't just the numbers.

It's where they're coming from.

Just a few months ago, eBay Live didn't exist in our business.

Now it's becoming one of the major pillars we'll continue building throughout FY27.

The Bigger Picture

A lot of people measure progress by revenue.

I don't.

Revenue matters. I speak it ALOT!

Profit matters.

But what matters even more is capability.

  • Can the business process more stock?
  • Can the warehouse handle more volume?
  • Can the team support more customers?
  • Can the systems scale?

Because revenue is often just the result.

Capability is what creates it.

This week reminded me that the biggest wins usually happen long before anyone else notices them.

Question Of The Week

What are you building today that your future self will benefit from?

Not next week.

Not tomorrow.

Six months from now.

One year from now.

The work that changes your life is rarely the work that gets immediate applause.

It's usually the quiet work.

The systems.

The habits.

The preparation.

Keep showing up.

Your future self is counting on it.

See you next week,

Chris

Yo yo yo! Reader, Some weeks you feel unstoppable. Other weeks feel like you're spending all your time reacting. This was one of those weeks. Trades didn't arrive when they were supposed to. Collections got delayed. Staff had family commitments. A camera return turned into a difficult customer situation. Rain made warehouse work harder than it needed to be. Even simple plans seemed to require three backup plans. A few years ago that would've completely thrown me. Now? It's just business. Also...

Yo yo yo! Reader, There's a funny thing that happens when your business grows. You spend years dreaming about having more opportunities… …and then one day you wake up and realise your biggest challenge isn't finding opportunities anymore. It's choosing which ones deserve your attention. That was this week. Also if you are needing a game changing legend of an accountant, Ethan is your guy! Yo yo yo! Reader, This week felt like a milestone. After weeks of planning, measuring, moving and reorganising, the new pallet racking finally went in. In less than an hour, one of the biggest operational projects we've tackled this year was standing in the warehouse and almost immediately, it started filling up. On the surface, it looks like shelving. In reality, it's capacity. Capacity for more stock. More consignments. More opportunities. More live shows. More moving parts. And judging by...
